The Amherst Tree Lighting Festival!

Tree Lighting Festival

The Amherst Tree Lighting Festival is held on the second Sunday’s weekend in December. It falls on December 12-13-14th this year of 2014.

It is a weekend when our town organizations, churches and clubs work hard to enliven our beautiful village and town with concerts, ballets, breakfasts, house tours, bazaars, fairs, visits with Santa, children’s events, open houses, and even a spaghetti supper!

The weekend begins with the Friday 6:30  PM Tree Lighting Ceremony, on the WWI Common,  during which all the winter holidays, celebrated by Amherst Residents are acknowledged. Songs and readings about Christmas, Hanukkah, Kwanzaa, The Winter Solstice, and the First Snow are sung and read.Traditionally, at dusk, single, white candle lights appear in the windows of each village home. The crowd gathers and “oohs and ahhs” as the colorful village tree is lit.

The Tree Lighting Ceremony is followed by a yummy spaghetti supper next door at the Congregational Church. On the days after the Tree Lighting ceremony, many activities take place  around the village and town.

A full schedule will appear in the Amherst Citizen Newspaper, and social media.

The  new Co-Chairs for 2015 and on are  Michelle Arbogast and Dorothea Daniel !
