The Amherst Supervisors of the Checklist will be in session at the Town Clerk’s Office at the Amherst Town Hall on Friday, October 30, between 7:00 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. This will be the last time currently registered voters may change their party affiliation prior to the Presidential Primary, the date of which is still uncertain.  New voters are welcome to register at the Town Hall up until 10 days prior to Election Day or at the polls on Election Day.

How to Register to Vote

During weekdays, new voters can register at the Town Clerk’s Office during regular office hours.

You may also register on election day at the polls.

New registrations require: 1) a valid photo ID (driver’s license, passport, or other accepted forms of photo ID) as proof of age (need to be 18 by election day) and identity, 2) proof of town residency if the address on your driver’s license does not confirm residency (i.e., an electric bill or other accepted document proving current residency), and 3) proof of US citizenship if not U.S. born (U.S. passport or naturalization papers).

Checking Voter Registration

Copies of the checklist are available prior to an election at the Town Clerk’s Office and the Town Library.

If unsure of your current party affiliation, you may go online to check it at or check the paper checklists located at the Town Office or Town Library.

One can request a copy of the checklist through the Town Clerk’s Office.  The charge is $25 for each copy of the public checklist for a town.  For public checklists containing more than 2,500 names, the fee is $25 plus $.50 per thousand names or portion thereof in excess of 2,500, plus any shipping costs.  The checklist may be provided on paper, computer disk, computer tape, electronic transfer, or any other form. RSA 654:31 II.

Job Description

Three Supervisors of the Checklist are elected with staggered terms of six years to serve the voters of the town.

Duties of the Supervisors include the following: 1) Determine if an applicant is legally qualified to vote, 2) Update the Checklist of registered voters with new voter registrations and any status changes, 3) Maintain and update the voter files in the Town Clerk’s Office, 4) Attend periodic training sessions held in Concord, 5) Hold periodic mandatory supervisor sessions and post notices in advance, and 6) Educate voters about any changes to voting procedure or law.  On Election Day, supervisors are to be present before, during and after elections to set up, register voters, facilitate party changes, do data entry, and tally numbers required by the Secy. of State’s Office.  Following an election, supervisors enter any new voter applications and status changes into the database and scan checklists to record voter history.
