Fall and winter recreational activities are listed in the Winter-spring '08 flyer (0.8MB pdf file).

Be sure to sign up early, either online or with the form in the flyer. Nothing kills a program quicker than everyone waiting until the very last minute to sign up. Activities usually include:

  • Games, Bridge, and Writing: Fun activities for Adults.
  • Adult Volleyball and Basketball: Evenings at the Middle School gym, beginning in September.
  • Youth Spanish, Volleyball, Drama, Riding, and Chess: A variety of programs for different ages.
  • Archery, Softball, Baseball, Wrestling, and Yoga: Various programs for children in grades 1-8.
  • Winter Youth Basketball programs and League: A variety of Hoop programs and competiion are available for kids of any age.
  • Skiing at Pats Peak and Crotched mountain: For kids, after school, and a variety of discounted passes and instruction are available for families, adults, and kids.

For other Amherst recreational activities, consider the conservation commission's trails, or the Peabody Mill Environmental Center.


The Amherst Recreation Department's mission is to provide residents with quality and diverse programs and facilities that will promote health and wellness, build on knowledge and skills, enjoy family, and come together as a community through similar interests.

The Recreation Commission is appointed by the selectmen to oversee the Amherst recreation program.
