Have a Question?

If you have a question first check the transfer station FAQ, then, if necessary, send a "Talking Trash" query to the committee, or ask at the scale house.

The Transfer Station is located on Route 101 heading east between Walnut Hill and Horace Greeley Roads. Most non-hazardous wastes can be left there. Fees are charges for a few items. It is to everyones advantage to recycle as much as possible because items put in the trash compactors cost the town more than anything else for disposal. Use the recycling flyer to learn where and how to recycle whatever you have.

The Amherst Transfer Station is overseen by the Amherst Solid Waste Task Force. The day-to-day operations are run by the Amherst DPW. An Amherst Recycling Newsletter is now published periodically. Find it among the links on the left.

Amherst participates in the Nashua Regional Household Hazardous Waste Collection Program. Hazardous wastes are not accepted at the Amherst Transfer Station.

Fees are charged for some items, including appliances such as refrigerators and air conditioners, tires, electronics, brush and logs larger that 6" in diameter, propane gas cylinders, and construction debris. Note that the specific disposition and prices for particular materials may change quickly, depending on market conditions. Check at the scale house for information on recent changes in prices or handling of specific materials. Information available at the scale house is definitive and final.
