What's Happening at the PMEC?

We have lots of great events planned this summer!The following are just a few of the programs and events that we have planned. Monthly Creature Feature How long can a beaver hold its breath for? What is the only bird that can fly backwards? Do frogs drink through their skin? Why do only the female mosquitoes bite? Learn the answers to questions like these and more during ?Creature Feature? at the Peabody Mill Environmental Center. This monthly program is geared towards people of all ages who want to see live animals up close and personal. Those brave enough might get the chance to hold or touch one of our featured creatures. A different local or exotic animal will be featured each session. When: Saturdays- 8/1, 9/5 Where: PMEC Time: 2:00-3:00PM Fee: Free to Amherst Residents (donations accepted), $1 Nonresidents Fishing Rentals Rent a rod, reel and tackle for only $5. We’ll even throw in the bait! Fishing in our pond is catch & release. A license is required for 16 and over. Rent in person during PMEC hours of operation. First come, first served. Do you want to learn to fish, but don’t know where to start? Instruction is available. Please call ahead to arrange. The Peabody Mill Environmental Center (PMEC) is an environmental and science education center which abuts almost 600 acres of Joe English conservation land. Located at the end of Brook Road in Amherst, New Hampshire, the PMEC is directed by the Amherst Recreation Department. The mission of PMEC is to foster an awareness, understanding and appreciation of the natural world, by offering environmental, conservation, and science programs to all ages. PMEC strives to foster diligent stewardship of our environment so that future generations may inherit and continue to be inspired by the wonders of a protected and natural world.
