The Amherst Planning & Zoning Department is responsible for inspections and for maintaining records of buildings and zoning within the town. Building permits and inspections are required for most construction and development within the town. Please don’t hesitate to call us to ask further questions or to clarify procedural matters.
The Planning & Zoning Department accepts applications for reviews by the Planning Board, Conservation Commission, the Historic District Commission, and the Zoning Board of Adjustment. They also issue Building Permits, Oil & Propane Installation permits, Blasting permits, and Tank removal permits for the Fire Department.
The town’s building inspector works on Tuesday and Thursday each week. The inspector can be contacted by phone (603-673-6041 ext. 214) Tuesday or Thursday between 7:00 AM and 7:45 AM and between 11:45 AM and 12:30 PM. The inspector can be seen in person at the Town Hall between 11:45 AM and 12:30 PM Tuesday or Thursday.
