The Amherst Police Department currently anticipates a Full Time Officer vacancy beginning October 1, 2014, following a pending retirement. Starting salary for an uncertified applicant is $43,472 with advancement to $47,174 at the end of the first year of service. The Amherst Police Department consists of 18 full-time officers, along with several part-time officers and civilian personnel. The Town of Amherst has a population of approximately 13,000 and is conveniently located in the south central portion of New Hampshire and covers approximately 34 square miles. Amherst is considered a commuter’s suburb as highway access is easily obtained via Route 101 and Route 101A, with an estimated travel time to Boston, MA being 50 minutes.
