TOWN OF AMHERST
Mosquito Control
The Mosquito Control program begins the week of April 9, 2012 in the Town of Amherst. Crews from Dragon Mosquito Control will be checking swamps, marshes, woodland pools, ditches, storm drains and other shallow, stagnant water for mosquito larvae. When mosquitoes are found, the following insecticides may be used:
| VectoBac (Bacillus thuringiensis israelensis) | Agnique MMF (poly-isooctadecyl-hydroxyl) |
| Natular (spinosad) | BVA 2 Mosquito Larvicide Oil (highly refined petroleum distillate) |
| Altosid (methoprene) |
If Eastern Equine Encephalitis or West Nile Virus is found in or near Amherst, then emergency spraying may be conducted using one or more of the following products:
| Anvil (sumithrin) | Cross Check Plus (bifenthrin) |
| Zenivex (etofenprox) | Mavrik Perimeter (tau-fluvalinate) |
| Permanone (permethrin) | Suspend SC (deltamethrin) |
| Flit (permethrin) |
Emergency spray treatments may be conducted at the following locations:
| Clark Elementary School | Souhegan High School |
| Wilkins Elementary School | Cemetery Field |
| Amherst Middle School | Spaulding Field |
It is not possible to predict if emergency spraying will be necessary. The spray schedule is based upon mosquito surveillance data, disease test results and weather conditions. Further communication will be given if emergency spraying is going to take place.
Residents who do not want their wetlands treated may use our No-Spray Registry online at www.DragonMosquito.com/No-Spray-Registry or write to Dragon Mosquito Control, P.O. Box 46, Stratham, NH 03885. Be sure to include your name, physical address, phone number, and a description of your property with boundaries. Residents who would like to have their stagnant water checked for mosquitoes may call our office at 734-4144 or email Info@DragonMosquito.com. There is no charge for this service.
